Embrace - Five Minute Friday

"Wherever you are, be all there." -Jim Elliot

That's what it means to embrace life, and it's something I've been thinking a lot about the last few months.  Not living in the past, not worrying about tomorrow, but embracing today.   Embracing this moment.

There's something about the culture we live in that makes it hard to live in each moment.  I've found that I have the desire to document moments so that I can share them with others.  Instagram enables me to instantly share whatever is going on in my life with others.

But in that moment, when all I can think about is capturing it just right and thinking of what phrase will go with that picture, I find that I actually have failed to truly be all there.

I miss moments of giving my full attention to my piano student because I'm focused on trying to capture the moment.  I miss out on just sitting and breathing in the fresh air because I want to share the beauty on social media.

So there's nothing wrong with documenting moments on Instagram - in fact, I love looking back and remembering sometimes.

But sometimes, I need to just put the phone down and, wherever I am, be all there.

Great wisdom here. It's so easy to look past a moment to see how it will fit into 'the past of our future', and that does indeed take something away from its immediacy...and preciousness.

I love that quote and I agree, it is important to embrace the moment and to consider what distracts us from doing that. Visiting from FMF #10.
